We love visiting St. Croix Falls, WI, and it’s sister city, Taylors Falls, MN. The State Parks are amazing and the attractions like Wild Mountain and Fawn-Doe-Rosa wildlife park are fun.

That being said, the area’s hidden superpower are its wineries and breweries. All the wineries in St. Croix Falls, WI focus on locally made wine using grape varieties that are unique to Minnesota.

The best part is that St. Croix Falls is only an hour’s drive from the Twin Cities of St. Paul and Minneapolis! So pack your bags and head north. It is perfect for a day trip or a weekend away.

Dancing Dragonfly Winery

St. Criox Falls, WI

Dancing Dragonfly Winery is located right outside St. Croix Falls proper. The name comes from the founder’s experience in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area, which if you read our blog, you’ll know is our favorite place on earth!

They have an extensive list of award-winning wines with names like Conga, Jig, and Cha Cha. The rustic tasting room is stunning and offers wine by the glass, tastings, and tours.

In addition, they serve up homemade pizzas, panini sandwiches, baguettes, and other appetizers seven days a week.

Winehaven Winery & Vineyard

Taylors Falls, MN

Winehaven Winery is an excellent family owned, sustainably farmed winery in the area. They have acres of cold-climate grapes that were developed to thrive in Minnesota’s extreme temperatures.

They are open daily and offer wine tasting and a number of events ranging from festivals and yoga to live music and twilight river cruises. Winehaven is a true destination winery.

Wild Mountain Winery

Taylors Falls, MN

Wild Mountain Winery is run by the Olson family outside of Taylors Falls, MN. The coolest part is that they have on-site camping, both tent and an on-site glamping experience! They also offer live music and events, pizza and other food, and fine wine.

And Taylors Falls is a perfect day trip from the Twin Cities.

Chateau St. Croix Winery

St. Croix Falls, WI

Chateau St. Croix Winery and Vineyard is located just outside of St Croix Falls, Wisconsin. The Chateau itslef is stunning and is a great spot for events like birthdays, anniversaries, and weddings.

Their Bistro serves up a fine selection of small plates, appetizers and sandwich’s. Chateau St. Croix Winery has live music ever Saturday during the summers and a generous Happy Hour each Friday starting at 3PM.

Deer Lake Winery

St. Croix Falls, MN

We love Deer Lake Winery because they are focused on making wines with 100% organic grapes. I know it’s all in our heads, but we always feel like the hangovers are just slightly less painful with the organic and natural wines we drink on our trips to Italy…

Deer Lake Winery has a broad selection of wines and is kid AND pet friendly. They even have a tomato-basil wine, Audun! Your kids will be happy with their flatbreads appetizers!

Bunnycup Winery

Luck, WI

Bunnycup Winery serves up local wine in an unfussy, welcoming country setting. They have their own estate vineyard and manage Rich Iverson’s Snowbank Vineyard as well, providing a steady stream of high-quality grapes.

Their spacious tasting room is built inside a restored century-old barn and serves wine, wine flights, and a selection of appetizers and small bites. Balsam Lake Lodge, which is right down the road, also delivers from their full menu.

Rustic Roots Winery

Taylors Falls, MN

Rustic Roots Winery is another excellent winery across the river in Taylors Falls. They have an awesome outdoor seating area that overlooks their vineyard and live local music on their covered patio. They repurposed an old air stream camper to serve as their bar and grill, which is just amazing.

They serve up tasty flatbreads in addition to a variety of appetizers and small plates. The grill has excellent sandwiches and burgers. Be sure to pay close attention to their menu as they tell you exactly which wines pair best with each meal!

St. Croix Vineyards

Stillwater, MN

Saint Croix Vineyards was founded in 1992 and are part of the O.G. MN winemaking crowd. The tasting room is located in a restored old red barn with views of the vineyard.

We recommend their Frontenac Gris, which one a Double Gold medal at the prestigious San Francisco International Wine Competition.

Trap Rock Brewing Company, Inc.

St. Croix Falls, WI

Not a wine drinker? Not to worry. Trap Rock Brewing Company is one of two great breweries near St. Croix Falls, WI. They have an everchanging lineup of excellent beers served out of the microbrewery right in the heart of St. Croix Falls, Wisconsin.

Slim Logger (Lager) and their Story Time Hazy IPA series are crowd favorites.

Uncommon Loon Brewing Company

Chisago City, MN

Just down the road in Chisago City is Uncommon Loon Brewing Company. Their taproom features a rotating lineup of 16 beers. They are very kid friendly and dogs are welcome as well.

We love that they showcase art from local artists in the taproom. And you have to try their Speckled Loon Cream Ale.
